I provide strategic and technical leadership for the Biology IT group.
I am fascinated by systems. A well-architected, smoothly running, optimized system is a thing of beauty. My passion is designing, building, maintaining and monitoring highly performant systems that solve real-world problems.
Because none of us can understand everything, I work collaboratively. By collaborating we learn from each other's areas of strength and become more effective. My own background is in unix administration and web development. I enjoy taking a deep dive into unfamiliar technology and emerging with newfound expertise. I like to leave a trail of documentation along the way.
My current area of exploration is high-performance, highly-available Linux systems. I maintain BugGuide.net.
