Editing Content and Viewing Revisions

Video created by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach IT

How to edit website content and view your revisions

In this tutorial, we will cover how to edit content. Sometimes, you will notice that your content has information that needs to be updated. Or perhaps you created an Announcement with a typo in the body text. Also, at the end of this tutorial, we will discuss how you can view revisions (if they are enabled on your Luggage site).

This tutorial uses the pages content type as an example, but each content type will have similar instructions.

Announcements

How to create an announcement for your website

In this tutorial, you will learn all about the announcement content type. The announcement content type is used to present information about events or department news for site visitors (e.g. highlighting a department's accomplishments by showing off new research or displaying faculty awards). Because of the announcement's banner function on the front page, an announcement is often the first thing a site visitor will see. Keep that in mind when creating content.

Clearing your Browser Cache

How to quickly clear your browser cache

Sometimes after updating a site you may be asked to clear your browser's cache or temporary files in order to see changes or to help diagnose an issue. This cache stores web pages, images, and other resources so that the next time you visit a page, instead of downloading it all again, it will just use what was previously downloaded. Sometimes these cached files can get out of date after a site is updated. In order to force the browser to download the new files from the server we need to clear its cache.

Content Cards

Content Cards are a compact, attractive way to present an image, link, and/or label. Once they've been set up, they're easy to edit.

Courses

The Courses feature offers an easy and attractive way to simply display the courses that you will be offering during a given school year. The format makes it easy for users to interact with your courses list. Courses is a feature that is not turned on by default in our Luggage platform. If you would like this feature added to your site, please email websupport@iastate.edu and we'd be happy to add it!

Images and Photos

How to add images/photos to any website content

Want to add a graph to a summary of your research? Or perhaps you want to add a banner to an announcement you've created? This tutorial will show you everything you need to know about adding images to your content. This tutorial is broken up into four parts: basic image uploading, adding alternate and title text, editing your image with WYSIWYG, and linking to your image. Let's get started!

News Articles

How-to create a news article on your website

Did someone in your department or laboratory just do something great? If your answer is "yes," then you want to create a news article.

Projects

How to create a project on your website

The project content type on Luggage is useful for showcasing research that your department has done. Listing grants and showing project start and end dates are some of the features that the project content type provides. Read this tutorial for more information about creating a project page.

Step 1: Creating Your Project

Using the menu bar at the top of the page, hover over the "Content" tab and select "Project" from the "Add Content" menu (Note: your menu may look slightly different):

Pages

How to create a page for your website

In this tutorial, you will learn about the page content type. The page content type is for any basic information, such as informative pieces, that do not fall into one of the other content types; announcement, event, news, people or resource.

Step 1: Creating a Page

Under the administration menu, select Content > Add Content > Page

Page Order

Order settings are used minimally on Luggage. There are only a few features that allow you to change the order: menu items, category items, and project pages. This tutorial will teach you how page order can help you organize your projects.

The page order field can be found near the bottom of your project page editor. If I create a new project, this is the value of the page order field that I will see:
