Announcements

How to create an announcement for your website

In this tutorial, you will learn all about the announcement content type. The announcement content type is used to present information about events or department news for site visitors (e.g. highlighting a department's accomplishments by showing off new research or displaying faculty awards). Because of the announcement's banner function on the front page, an announcement is often the first thing a site visitor will see. Keep that in mind when creating content.

Clearing your Browser Cache

How to quickly clear your browser cache

Sometimes after updating a site you may be asked to clear your browser's cache or temporary files in order to see changes or to help diagnose an issue. This cache stores web pages, images, and other resources so that the next time you visit a page, instead of downloading it all again, it will just use what was previously downloaded. Sometimes these cached files can get out of date after a site is updated. In order to force the browser to download the new files from the server we need to clear its cache.

Courses

The Courses feature offers an easy and attractive way to simply display the courses that you will be offering during a given school year. The format makes it easy for users to interact with your courses list. Courses is a feature that is not turned on by default in our Luggage platform. If you would like this feature added to your site, please email websupport@iastate.edu and we'd be happy to add it!

Projects

How to create a project on your website

The project content type on Luggage is useful for showcasing research that your department has done. Listing grants and showing project start and end dates are some of the features that the project content type provides. Read this tutorial for more information about creating a project page.

Step 1: Creating Your Project

Using the menu bar at the top of the page, hover over the "Content" tab and select "Project" from the "Add Content" menu (Note: your menu may look slightly different):

Page Order

Order settings are used minimally on Luggage. There are only a few features that allow you to change the order: menu items, category items, and project pages. This tutorial will teach you how page order can help you organize your projects.

The page order field can be found near the bottom of your project page editor. If I create a new project, this is the value of the page order field that I will see:

Resources

How to create a resource on your website

In this tutorial, you will learn how to create a resource.  The resource content type is used for links that are off site.  A good example would be an on-campus program or organization that is affiliated with your department.  This negates the need for landing pages and allows for better tagging and categorization.

Step 1: Creating a Resource

Using the menu bar at the top of the page, hover over the "Content" tab and select "Resource" from the "Add Content" menu.

Your Public Profile

How to set up your public profile

In this tutorial you will log in and edit the profile that will appear on the new website. Before you start, please locate a digital picture of yourself (a head shot). You will use this image in your profile. The objective is to create an official web presence within the department. We can get this done in 6 easy steps, so let's get started.

Hero Expanded Blocks

Hero Expanded blocks are a great way to display a small body of text with a pleasing background. If you wish to feature an image with minimal text, consider using a Hero block instead.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to edit Hero Expanded blocks.
